Rehabilitation and Planting to improve Baileys Reserve green spaces

Continuing the momentum at this new Gold Coast townhouse address after recent commencement of civil works, our rehabilitation and environmental consultant from Bower Ecology, has given us the below update.

Bower Ecology recently commenced rehabilitation planting work to the green space areas of the site which will wrap around the community along Old Coach Road and Baileys Mountain Road. These works both improve road noise buffers as well as delivering picturesque walking paths for the enjoyment of future residents of this peaceful, nature-immersed property.

Works are underway to create a large 1,941 square metre conservation park with recreational linkage to existing nature reserves.  There will also be an 8,749 square metre ecological corridor connecting the community’s communal open space areas with existing nature reserves at the rear of the site.

Recent maintenance works at Baileys Reserve have focused on controlling the regrowth of invasive species. Specifically, Bower Ecology completed herbicide treatment (foliar spray) targeting the regrowth of lantana, cassia, exotic grass and other broad-leaf weeds. Additionally, follow-up stem injection treatments were applied to larger slash pines and palms to ensure these species are fully eradicated from the site.

“The newly planted stock is thriving, with particularly strong growth observed in the lomandra, which is an evergreen and hardy Australian native plant which will grow into a sea of green on the site.”

Although a few casualties have occurred (likely due to the stress of replanting and minor grazing from small animals, possibly rabbits), these will be replanted during upcoming maintenance runs to ensure continued success.

To prevent erosion/silt entering the waterway, the Bower team plans to install jute matting on the bank once the area preparation is completed by Stratum, the project’s civil team.  After the jute matting is in place, they will install plants in the matted area to beautify, enhance stabilisation and promote ecological restoration.

These ongoing works are all part of SKF Development’s commitment to delivering neighbourhoods and buildings that unite lifestyle, urban living, and conscious design.

Baileys Reserve at Upper Coomera, in the growth corridor located between the Gold Coast and Brisbane, will be a place where nature, community and city-living coexist.
